Step through the looking-glass and enter the world of The Mayfair Townhouse, an imaginative world of surprises, whimsical details, and curiosities with all the amenities of a luxury hotel.
Located in the heart of Mayfair, one of the most prestigious areas of London. Dandy is the cornerstone theme and design language of The Mayfair Townhouse - building on the historic connections with Oscar Wilde, Half Moon Street and the dandy lifestyle associated with the area. The best way to describe the vibe and design of the hotel is Oscar Wilde Meets Alice in Wonderland if it were directed by Guillermo del Toro. Every artwork and corner at The Mayfair Townhouse has a story and narrative. The resident townhouse peacock at the entrance is named after Oscar Wilde's lover, Lord Alfred 'Bosie' Douglas, is covered in 25,000 Swarovski crystals.
If you have the pleasure of staying here, make sure to ask the staff to tell you about the the story behind the portraits of the fictional Renard family in the club room. It’s quite an interesting one along with the imaginative portraits. Renard also translates from French to fox, the hotel’s mischievous mascot that are sprinkled throughout the property from the brass door knockers to the framed artwork hung in The Den. The more you look, the more narratives and stories you’ll find down this rabbit hole.
The Neighborhood
Located in one of the best areas in London with many high-end restaurants and shops. I was able to walk to Bond Street and Regent Street easily. For those wanting to take the tube, Green Park tube station is a 2 minute walk making it super convenient.
The Service
The Mayfair Townhouse feels like a members only club. The staff learns your name upon check-in and remembers you throughout the stay. I frequented the bar/restaurant multiple times and the staff was super friendly that made the experience even more memorable. The problem I have with a lot of luxury hotels is usually the lack of personality. Luxury hotel staff are often void of any personality to stay “on brand”, but in today’s world, you can show personality and still stay on brand, and that’s what the staff here did so well.
The Accommodation
I stayed in the The Green Park Suite, which is a spacious suite with a separate sitting room and bathroom with walk-in shower and natural light. Rooms are designed with rich jewel tones that mimic the colorful ensembles of the dandies that once strolled the neighborhood.
Restaurant/Bar
The Dandy Bar is the heart and soul of The Mayfair Townhouse. It’s beautifully designed space with mirror ceiling and dim ambient lighting and intricate details. I tried nearly every single cocktail on the menu and the best one was actually one that wasn’t on the menu. The bartenders here are so skilled that you can tell them what you fancy and they will make something based off that.
Breakfast is served below the main bar in the brightly painted club room surrounded by whimsical details and quirky artwork. Definitely take a look at all the fox artwork inside The Den.
Who should book it?
Luxury travelers that are looking for something unique. Something beyond the ordinary while still having all the luxury amenities of a high-end hotel. The energy is cool, exciting, and exclusive. Even if you are not staying at the hotel, you should pay a visit to the Dandy Bar for a dandy good time.
